Another name for Henry was CHARTERIS, Henry of Kinfauns.1 User ID: C599. General Notes: "Henry, thirteenth Earl of Crawford, succeeded his nephew. He had been adopted in his youth by John Charteris of Kinfauns, and assumed the surname and arms of Charteris, the arrangement being ratified by Act of Parliament 27 September 1584. The charter of John Charteris is dated 29 November of that year. Sir Henry was, however, usually designated as of Caraldston, to which lands the office of Dempster was attached. He sold Kinfauns 29 December 1612." Henry married Helen CHISHOLM 'of Crombie' before 25 July 1586.1 (Helen CHISHOLM 'of Crombie' was born about 1558.) Marriage Notes: "He (Henry Lindsay) succeeded to the earldom in 1620, and died before 16 January 1623, having married, first, before 26 July 1586, Helen, daughter of Sir James Chisholm of Crombie, who was doubtless a near relation of Janet Chisholm, the wife of John Charteris of Kinfauns. By her he had issue" Henry next married Margaret SHAW 'of Sauchie' 2 December 1599(proclamation).1 (Margaret SHAW 'of Sauchie' was born about 1575 and died after 2 October 1644 1.) Marriage Notes: "Henry (Lindsay), Earl of Crawford, married, secondly, Margaret, sister of Sir James Shaw of Sauchie. The proclamation of marriage, in which she is described as of the Court of the Queen's Majesty, was made at Clackmannan 2 December 1599. She was living, a widow, 2 October 1644. They had issue" |
