"On 6 March 1685 Sir John Maitland and Margaret Cunningham his wife had a charter of the lands of Ravelrig." (page 310)

"He married, circa 1680, Margaret Cunningham, only child of Alexander, ninth Earl of Glencairn, and his wife Nicholas Stewart of Kirkhill, to whom she was served heir 14 March 1714. By her, who survived him, and died at Hawthornden 12 May 1742, aged about eighty, he had...issue (some of whom) died young" (pages 310 and 311)
