Elizabeth married Charles MAITLAND of Halton, 3rd Earl of Lauderdale, son of John MAITLAND 2nd Lord Thirlestane, then Earl of Lauderdale, Viscount Maitland and Isobel SETON, on 18 November 1652.1 (Charles MAITLAND of Halton, 3rd Earl of Lauderdale was born about 1625 and died on 9 June 1691 1.) Marriage Notes: "He (Charles Maitland) married, 18 November 1652, Elizabeth, younger daughter of Richard Lauder of Halton, who brought to him the estates of Halton, Overgogar, Norton, and Platts, of which a charter passed the Great Seal on 4 December 1660, ratified by Act of Parliament 9 October 1663, prescribing, among other conditions, that the arms of Lauder should be quartered with those of Maitland. Hence he was generally known as Charles Maitland of Halton." |
