Alexander married Marion SETON, daughter of George SETON 5th of that Ilk, 3rd Lord Seton and Janet HEPBURN, by 24 March 1552(1553).^{1 2} (Marion SETON was born about 1512 and died by 30 September 1561 ².)

"Thomas, Master of Borthwick, married Mariot, daughter of George, Lord Seton, and died in his father's lifetime, after 28 November 1528, without issue. His widow married, secondly, February 1530-31, Hugh, Earl of Eglinton." (page 108)
