HAGGS

Haggs was situated in the area between what is now Kirkshaws, Coatbridge and Bellshill, west of Shawhead, near the Stratclyde Business Park in North Lanarkshire. After the period of the Hamiltons of Haggs it was renamed Rosehall or Rosehaugh. [Grid reference: NS 72269 62209 Lat / long: 55.836146, -4.041076]

Sir Alexander Hamilton of Haggs, 1st Baronet died in 1699. He had been created a Baronet in 1669 and had married Mary Murray of the Murrays of Babberton. he sold the estate in 1691 to Sir Archibald Hamilton, Baronet. It was at this stage that the name change occurred. Sir Alexander later married a daughter of a laird of Grant. Sir Archibald was a descendant of the Hamiltons of Udston; he was the fourth son of James Hamilton of Barncleuch. 1 3


Gavin married Janet HYNDE.1 (Janet HYNDE was born about 1470.)

"Gavin Hamilton, sixth son of Gavin Hamilton (No. 176). He is mentioned as a witness, 25th March 1529 (Hamilton MSS.). He married Janet, relict of Thomas Pettigrew of Haggs, and had : -
