"The immediate successor of John, Lord Vaux, of Dirleton, was his eldest son, Thomas Vaux, Lord Dirleton, who is mentioned as being one of the 65 earls and lords who led the Scottish army at the Battle of Halidon-hill, 19th July, 1833. He fell at the Battle of Durham, in 1346, without issue, but the immediate line of descent was carried
on by his second son, whose son and heir, William de Vallibus inherited all the estates of the family ...."
