'COUNTESS OF BUCKINGHAM

Some secondary sources maintain that James Leith of Harthill married the 'Countess of Buckingham'.

George Villiers was for time Earl of Buckingham, and subsequently 2nd Duke of Buckingham. He died in 1687 and with him the title became extinct, again.

He had married Mary Fairfax, who was therefor Duchess of Buckingham. Her dates were 1640-1704, so she did outlive her husband.

Since James Leith died in 1680 no marriage with her would have been possible. Nor has any record of it been found. ^{1 2 3}
