General Notes: In a contract of 1596, this David Ramsay's son is referred as "apperand" or "apparent", that is "heir", of Balmain, which is taken here to mean the elder David Ramsay was not yet deceased on that date: David married Katherine CARNEGIE, daughter of Sir Robert CARNEGIE 5th of Kinnaird and Margaret GUTHRIE.1 (Katherine CARNEGIE was born about 1529.) Marriage Notes: "Katherine, married to David Ramsay of Balmain. They as spouses received a charter from King James VI. of the lands of Wester Strath, dated 28 October 1576, and another charter of novodamus of the barony of Balmain, dated 12 August 1588. They had a son David who succeeded to Balmain about the year 1625." |
