   User ID: Y470.

Janet married Sir Walter STEWART of Fife, Lennox & Menteith, son of Murdoch (Murdac) STEWART 2nd Duke of Albany and Isabella 9th Countess of Lennox.1 (Sir Walter STEWART of Fife, Lennox & Menteith was born about 1394, died on 24 May 1425 in Castle Hill, Stirling, Scotland 2 and was buried in 1425 in Blackfriars Church, Stirling, Scotland.). The cause of his death was beheading.

  Marriage Notes:

"Sir Walter of Lennox, and after the death of his brother styled of Fife, Lennox, and Menteith, executed at Stirling 24 May 1425. He had a papal dispensation on 26 April 1421 for marriage with Janet, daughter of Sir Robert Erskine, but it is probable it was never celebrated. By a lady of the name of Campbell he had apparently two natural sons, Andrew, Lord Avondale (see that title), and Arthur, and, possibly by Janet Erskine, another son, Walter of Morphie, from whom descend the Earls of Castle Stewart in Ireland. These three sons were legitimated 17 April 1479."

from Scots Peerage (vol 1)

"2. Janet, who is named in a dispensation granted on 24 April 1421, for her marriage with Walter of Lennox, second son of Murdach, Duke of Albany and Earl of Lennox. They are said to be related in the third degree, a relationship corroborative of the alliance with the Earl of Crawford. It has been doubted if the marriage took place canonically, but Janet Erskine appears to have been the mother of Walter Stewart of Morphie, and the ancestress of the Earls of Castle Stewart in Ireland."
