LESLIE, Norman 1 2
User ID: E938. General Notes: "On the death of Sir William Leslie and of his sons without issue, the title went to the descendants of Norman Leslie, third son of John Leslie, fifth Baron of Wardis, and brother of Sir John Leslie, first baronet." Norman married Marjorie ELPHINSTONE, daughter of Alexander ELPHINSTONE and Unknown, after 1616.1 (Marjorie ELPHINSTONE was born about 1587 and died on 15 November 1622 1.) Marriage Notes: "In her widowhood she married Norman Leslie, a brother of the unfortunate laird of Wardes, who lost Ardtannies. Marjorie Elphinstone removed with Norman Leslie to Whitehaugh, on Fetternear, where she died. On being buried, she was said to have been awakened from the death-sleep by the gravedigger trying to cut the wedding ring off her finger, and to have gone back to her first home at Ardtannies. The legend has, fittingly, corrupted her name into 'Mary Eerie Orie (Meriorie) Elphinstone'. Norman, by a second wife, was ancestor of the more recent baronets of Wardes." Norman next married Marjory LEITH, daughter of John LEITH 3rd of Harthill and Beatrix FRASER, after 15 November 1622.1 2 (Marjory LEITH was born about 1595.) Marriage Notes: "On the death of Sir William Leslie (3rd Baronet of Wardis) and of his sons without issue, the title went to the descendants of Norman Leslie, third son of John Leslie, fifth Baron of Wardis, and brother of Sir John Leslie, first baronet. Norman Leslie married Marjory, daughter of John Leith of Harthill, and had issue" |
