HAY, William 1

  • Born: About 1596

   User ID: C554.

  General Notes:

"William, who is referred to as the brother-german of ...Alexander, in the Charter, 19 March 1596/7 (Great Seal)... On 3 Oct. 1619 he made an elaborate renunciation in favour of Sir Alexander, his 'brother-german' of any rights due in consequence of their parents decease under the contract of 25 March 1608, from which, it appears Dame Elizabeth was dead by 1619, but he carefully reserved his 'right of airship' in the event of Sir Alexander dying without heirs male of his body (Aber. Sas. II. 89). This suggests that he was probably the William Hay, Master of the Music School in Old Aberdeen, who according to History of the Province of Moray, III., 438, was the father of the Bishop of Moray. If so it may be that on the death of Francis Hay 'Baron of Delgatie' (I fear only in name) in 1676, that the representation devolved on this line."

Note:
In The History of the Province of Moray, volume three, Shaw states that Bishop William Hay was "
of
the family of Park in Moray", and makes no mention of an association with the Hays of Delgaty. 1 2
