"Arthur Forbes married Margaret, fifth daughter of 'John Bethune of Creich' and aunt of Queen Mary's Mary Beaton (usually so spelled). This 'Lady Rires' is mentioned in the curious legend of the substituting of another child for that of the Queen, which is said to have died. She was also credited with supernatural powers, and further to have acted as go-between betwixt Queen Mary and Bothwell."
