The name of the wife of Robert Howie, elder, of Glentore is not yet known. We do know, however, that he was married since otherwise he could not be accused or found guilty of "the crime of adultery":

"Letter of gift under the Privy Seal to Alexander Neill in Eighterglen of both the moveable and real estate escheated from Robert Howie in Glentore for the crime of adultery committed with Janet Johnston, his servant. Issued at Edinburgh 8 Sep 1660"

HOWIE MS UNKNOWN married Robert HOWIE elder, of Glentore, son of Unknown (Robert? Joseph?) HOWIE and Unknown, before 8 September 1660.¹ (Robert HOWIE elder, of Glentore was born about 1634 and died after 1710 ².)

There is no hard evidence as yet for this marriage, except that Robert Howie, elder of Glentore, appears to have been father to the children named. They may have had the same or different mothers; some or all may have been legitimate or born outside marriage. Inferences are what we are dealing with at present. ¹
