HOWIE, John 1 2

  • Born: About 1660
  • Marriage (1): MUIRHEAD, Elspet

  General Notes:

This is a speculative placing of this John Howie.
Robert Howie, elder, of Glentore had an extra-marital relationship with Janet Johnston, a servant, which became public knowledge. We might speculate, then that it became public knowledge as a result of a child being conceived. We know that Robert Howie did not have a legitimate son named John, but it is a possibility he did have an illegitimate son of that name.

  Research Notes:

ROCHCRAIG

Now Roughcraig, is situated south-east of Rochsoles House and north-west of Thrushbush in the parish of New Monkland. In the middle of the 19th century there was a colliery there, as well as an oil work. 3

John married Elspet MUIRHEAD. (Elspet MUIRHEAD was born about 1665.)
