"In memory of Elspet Gordon, who died at Brae of Scurdargue, Rhynie, July 12th, 1742, aged 50 years, and her husband, Robt. Gordon, late farmer there, who died April 10th, 1754, aged 68 years. Also their second son George, late farmer in Mains of Rhynie, who died June 28, 1784, aged 63 years, and of his spouse Jane, only daughter of George and Isobel Gordon, formerly in Mains of Rhynie, who died March 21st, 1810, in the 31st (see note below) year of her age."

Note: in the copy of this old book, Epitaphs and Inscriptions by Andrew Jervise, from which this extract is taken, it quite clearly gives the age at death of Jane Gordon as "in the 31st year of her age". Yet this surely must be a mis-transcription for "in the 81st year of her age"? Had she been 31 years old when she died in 1810, she would have been born arounf 1779, yet her spouse, in the transcription, is recorded as having died in 1784! ⁵

Jean married George GORDON in Mains of Rhynie, son of Robert GORDON and Elspet GORDON, on 5 September 1749 in Rhynie parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.^{1 2} (George GORDON in Mains of Rhynie was born about 1721 ⁵ and died on 28 June 1784 in Rhynie parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland ⁵.)
