"The missing link here may perhaps be John, Vicecomes of Fife, who is mentioned in a charter dated 4th March, 1423 (Misc. of Spalding Club, Vol. V., p. 317). Nisbet says of him : 'Johannes de Lumsden is Vicecomes de Fife, as from an authentic deed I have seen in the Register in the time of the Regency of Robert, Duke of Albany; and it is remarkable the Duke Regent, who was the second son of King Robert II., calls this Johannes Lumsden consanguineus sicus' (App. s. v., Lundin)."
