LUMSDEN, James 1
User ID: D84. James married Isobell STRACHAN, daughter of John STRACHAN elder, Merchant in Aberdeen, 'sometime of Kincardine' and Margaret MOIR, in 1714.1 (Isobell STRACHAN was baptised on 16 December 1694 in Saint Nicholas parish, Aberdeen, Scotland,2 died on 19 January 1724 in Leith, Midlothian, Scotland 1 and was buried on 20 January 1724 in Leith, Midlothian, Scotland 1.) Marriage Notes: "A cousin of Harry (Lumsden)'s - the youngest son of his uncle William - married in 1714 Isobel, the daughter of John Strachan, senior, a merchant in Aberdeen. The marriage contract is dated at Glenkindie, so I presume the lady was some near relation of Sir Patrick Strachan, but beyond that I know nothing about her. She had a portion of 2000 merks, which her husband assigned to David Lumsden of Cushnie, and so Harry, as David's heir, was drawn into the net. James Lumsden seems to have been a rolling stone, frequently abroad, and always leaving his wife destitute. On the 3rd January, 1724, one John Strachan writes from Leith to his namesake in Aberdeen : |
