  General Notes:

On 14 June 1906 Agnes Weir's husband, John Shearer, was registered to claim relief in the Register of Other Parish Poor, with settlement by Bothwell parish, Lanarkshire, Poor Law authorities. Details of Agnes and her children were recorded in the application. Agnes was 62 years old and had been born in Chapelhall; she was the daughter of William Weir and Annie Strang, bothe deceased. The children born to to Agnes by John Shearer and to her first husband were noted: Annie Weir (35), Christina Weir (33), William Weir (31), James Weir (29); Elizabeth Shearer (25), John Shearer (24), Marion Shearer (22) and Gavin Shearer (20). All of her children had been born in Chapelhall.

After John Shearer's death relief continued to be paid to Agnes Weir or Shearer:
"12 September 1907 - enrol at 2/6 weekly
11 November 1909 - Discontinue allowance in respect son Gavin considered able to support
10 March 1921 - Grant Medicine and Medical Attendance
10 January 1924 - Granted Clothing

Agnes married John SHEARER, son of John SHEARER and Agnes McDEDD, on 25 August 1879 in Holytown manse, Bothwell parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 2 (John SHEARER was born about 1837 in Chapelhall, Holytown district, Bothwell parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland 2 5 8 9 10 and died on 27 July 1907 in Chapelhall, Holytown district, Bothwell parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland 5.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place after banns according to the forms of the Established Church of Scotland. John Wilkie, Minister of Holytown, married the couple. William A. Notman and Annie Anderson were witnesses.

John Shearer, of Chapelhall, was a blastfurnace-keeper. He was single and aged 41 years.

Agnes Wier (sic) was a widow aged 34 years. She too was of Chapelhall.

The marriage was registered at Holytown on 29 August 1879. 2

Agnes next married James WEIR on 28 September 1866 in Bothwell parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 3 (James WEIR was born about 1840.)
