There is a record of mortcloth payment for a John Donaldson in New Monkland parish registers for January 1835, indexed by GRO Scotland as 1 December 1834. However the index of births shows there were a number of individuals named John Donaldson to whom this entry could refer, and the identity is undetermined. ⁴
