Margaret married John MUIRHEAD 4th of Lauchope, son of John MUIRHEAD of Lauchope and Bullis, 3rd Laird and Margaret HEPBURN, about 1486.1 (John MUIRHEAD 4th of Lauchope was born about 1470.)

  Marriage Notes:

"About the year 1486, John Muirhead, (4th) of Lauchope, the son of John and Margaret (Hepburn) Muirhead married Margaret Borthwick, daughter of Lord William Borthwick and his wife, Mariota."

from Mother Bedford website

Note: The ancestry of Margaret Borthwick as presented in the Mother Bedford website is questionable. In the secondary sources, at least, there seems to be serious doubt, if not wholehearted confusion, about the names of wives of the first and second Lord Borthwick, and though both appear to have had daughters named Margaret in these lists, other husbands are attributed to them.

The dates might seem to favour the 2nd Lord Borthwick as her father, since the 1st Lord Borthwick is said to have died before 1458, but his daughter Margaret is said to have married Sir John Maxwell of Calderwood, though it is also maintained that the Margaret who married Sir John Maxwell was the daughter of the 1st Lord Borthwick, and that the daughter of the 2nd Lord Borthwick married Sir Oliver Sinclair of Roslin. These elements are further juggled when a 3rd Lord William Borthwick is added to the mix, his daughter Margaret being said to be the woman who married Sir Oliver Sinclair!

This being the case, no parentage is offered on this site for Margaret Bothwick.
