William married Elizabeth STEWART, daughter of Alexander STEWART of Dundonald, 4th High Steward of Scotland, Regent and Jean.1 2 (Elizabeth STEWART was born about 1258 and died before 1289 2.) Marriage Notes: "Elizabeth, married to Sir William Douglas of that Ilk, called ' Le Hardi,' and was the mother of the l Good Sir James ' Douglas." William next married Eleanor de Lovain.2 (Eleanor de Lovain was born about 1265 in England and died after 1305 2.) Marriage Notes: "Sir William Douglas married, first, Elizabeth, daughter of Alexander, High Steward of Scotland. She died some time before 1289, and he married, secondly, Eleanor de Lovain, or Ferrers, who survived him. In October 1303 King Edward I. granted her permission to marry John de Wysham, a 'vallet' of the King's, but she was apparently still a widow in June 1305." |
