George, the 5th Earl of Huntly, the great grandnephew of Alexander I of Cluny, had a charter of Strathaven from his father in 1549 (for he was then only a second son), and his second son, Alexander (died 1622), also held Strathaven."

George married Anne HAMILTON, daughter of James HAMILTON 2nd Earl of Arran, Duke of Chatelherault and Margaret DOUGLAS Countess of Arran, 24 March 1558(1559) (charter).1 (Anne HAMILTON was born about 1542.)


  Marriage Notes:

"The Earl (of Huntly, George Gordon) married, in 1558, a sister of the wife of his elder brother, Anna Hamilton, third daughter of the Duke of Chatelherault. They had a charter of Badenoch 24 March 1558-59."
