The 1851 census for new Monkland parish, Lanarkshire, recorded Robert and Christin (sic) Walker living at Mill Road, Riggend. Robert was a cotton weaver, and he and his wife had been born in the parish. With them lived their two children: James and Margaret; and a servant aged 14 years.

In 1861 the census recorded Robert and Christina Walker living at 762 House North Of Crosshead, New Monkland parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Robert Walker aged 34 years, and born in New Monkland parish was a Handloom Cotton Weaver. Christina Walker, 36 years, his wife was also born there, as were their children, James Walker 15 years, Margaret Walker 10 years, Robert Walker 9 years, William Walker 7 years, Isabella Walker 4 years John Walker 2 years, Andrew Walker 11 months.

No occupation was noted for Robert in his daughter's 1884 marriage certificate and he was recorded as deceased. ^{2 7 9}

Robert married Christian BROWN (DNA Linked), daughter of James BROWN Hand Loom Weaver, DNA Linked and Margaret HENDRY (DNA Linked), on 4 June 1845 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.¹ (Christian BROWN (DNA Linked) was born on 7 August 1823 in New Monkland parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland ^{7 9 10}, baptised on 2 August 1829 in New Monkland parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland ¹⁰ and died on 11 February 1909 in 1 Coltston Avenue, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland ¹¹.). The cause of her death was syncope (cardiac).
