"John Gartshore married Elizabeth Wood 4 July 1673, Kirkintilloch. They moved from Kirkintilloch to New Monkland after the marriage. There is a sasine whereby John Gartshore (Elizabeth Wood) borrowed money from Alexander Gartshore in December 1688, bought Middle Blairlin a week later and had paid back Alexander Gartshore by 1694."

There is uncertainty about where this John Gartshore belongs in the family line.
The actual sasine referred to above (1688) has not been seen by this researcher. The reference to it raises the question of who exactly the 'Alexander' was from whom money was borrowed. Were there two Alexanders - one who was the father of Agnes baptised 1652 in Kilsyth parish and another Alexander, the merchant who later became the laird of Gartshore on the death of his brother - or was there was only one? The suggestion has been put that the Alexander who was the father of Agnes was also the father of this John Gartshore, though no baptism record is available to offer evidence of that. Or was the Alexander Gartshore from whom John borrowed his brother? Without more evidence pointing one way or another we can only guess.

The same Rootschat entry talks of John and Elizabeth moving from Kirkintilloch after marriage, whereas the text of the marriage record refers to John as a portioner of New Monkland. Again, without further evidence we cannot say what exactly this refers to. 1 4 5
