In the 1861 death certificate of William Russell in Shotts parish Lanarkshire, his mother was recorded as "Jean Russell MS Russell".

In his marriage certificate of 1865 John Russell recorded his mother's name as "Jane Russell MS Russell". She was deceased.

When John Russell died in 1871 he was recorded in his death certificate as a "Blast Engine Worker married to Mary McNee". His age was noted then as 70 years. His parents were deceased. The maiden surname of his mother was not recorded, only that her name was "Jane Russell MS not Known". The informant was John's son William. ^{3 5 6}

Jean married William RUSSELL Farmer in Newarthill, Lanarkshire DNA linked on 7 July 1783 in Bothwell parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland.^{1 2} (William RUSSELL Farmer in Newarthill, Lanarkshire DNA linked was born about 1760 and died before 13 February 1861 ³.)
