ERSKINE, David 9th Earl of Buchan
(1672-1745) |
ERSKINE, David 9th Earl of Buchan 1General Notes: During the 1688 Revolution William Erskine 8th Earl of Buchan was captured and imprisoned for supporting James II. His ancestor James Erskine, son of John Erskine, Earl of Mar, had acquired the title of Earl of Buchan through marriage to Mary Douglas, Countess of Buchan. After the death of William in 1695, the title was awarded by working back up the male line from the 8th Earl, then descending again. The descendants of another son of John Erskine Earl of Mar, Henry Erskine, Master of Cardross, then inherited the title, and the survivor in that line David Erskine became the 9th Earl of Buchan. 1 David married. |
