James married Elizabeth FEELY, daughter of John FEELY and Helen McALLISTER, on 18 June 1890 in Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland.¹ (Elizabeth FEELY was born on 2 October 1868 in Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire, Scotland and died 4 April 1928 at 8.55 am in Ayr District Asylum, Ayrshire, Scotland ^{3 4 5}.). The cause of her death was fatty degeneration of the heart of indefinite period and oedema of the lungs over 10 days.

The couple were married according to the Free Church of Scotland by Robert Sellar Macaulay, minister. The witnesses were John Macaulay and Euphemia Macaulay.

James Gorman, aged 32 years, and Elizabeth McPhail, aged 23 years, were both single and resident at Glasgow Vennel, Irvine. He was a general dealer and she a hawker by occupation. Of their parents, only the groom's father was recorded as living.

The marriage was registered at Irvine on 19 June 1890. ¹
