Margaret married Sir William SINCLAIR of Herdmanston, son of Sir John SINCLAIR of Herdmanston and Polwarth and Elizabeth POLWARTH heiress of Polwarth.1 (Sir William SINCLAIR of Herdmanston was born about 1380 and died by 15 May 1437 1.) Marriage Notes: "Sir William St. Clair of Herdmanston who had a charter from Archibald, Earl of Douglas, confirming him in the lands of Herdmanston and Carfrae 20 January 1401. He was taken prisoner at the battle of Homildon Hill in 1402. He had a safe-conduct to England and back in September 1405, when he was hostage for the Earl of Douglas, and another safe-conduct till midsummer 1407. He wadsetted, with consent of Margaret his wife, for 140 merks, the lands of Carfrae, on 31 January 1413, to David Edmonston of that Ilk, which wadset was confirmed by charter by Archibald, Earl of Douglas, on 31 July 1415." |
