Staats married Katharine GORDON, daughter of William GORDON 2nd Earl of Aberdeen and Susan MURRAY, 25 March 1756(Faculty Licence).1 (Katharine GORDON was born on 20 October 1718,1 died on 10 December 1779 in London, England 1 and was buried in 1779 in Elgin Cathedral, Moray Scotland 1.) Marriage Notes: "..... Catherine (Gordon), only daughter of ..... William, second Earl of Aberdeen, by his second wife. She was married, secondly (Faculty licence, 25 March 1756), to Staats Long Morris, aged twenty-five, at that time of New York, but afterwards a general in the Army, and M.P. for Elgin Burghs, 1774-89." Staats next married Jane URQUHART in 1780.2 (Jane URQUHART was born about 1749 2 and died on 15 March 1801 2.) Marriage Notes: "General Staats Long Morris is probably the only American buried in Westminster Abbey. His grave is in the north aisle of the nave. Only the marker for his wife Jane is now visible and there is no monument to him. The floor of the nave was re-laid in 1834 and most of the large gravestones were taken up and replaced with a smaller stone giving just the name and date of death of individuals.
