General Notes: "From letters still preserved, we learn that he was both at Dumfries (1748), and at Anstruther (1750-1754),- before settling down at Dundee, where he lived from about 1760 till his death in 1770, being then described as 'Land Surveyor of the Customs.' " James married Christan INNES, daughter of John INNES of Knockorth and Margaret GORDON, on 22 June 1727 in Banff parish, Banffshire, Scotland.1 2 (Christan INNES was baptised on 25 March 1708 in Marnoch parish, Banffshire, Scotland 3 4 and died in 1785 1.)
