"James M'Donchie Grant, son of Duncan Grant of Gartinbeg, acted as bailie to Patrick Grant of Ballindalloch on 1st September 1579, and was a witness to the testament of Duncan Grant, apparent of Freuchie, in March 1582. He also appears as a witness in 1589. He is said to have died s.p." 1
