GRANT, Donald of Easter Lethendry 1 2
General Notes: " I cannot resist the temptation of quoting from a letter of Miss Evelyn Grant: "Robert Grant of the North West Company was my grandfather….I have a copy of the marriage certificate of his parents, who were David Grant, only son of Donald Grant of Easter Lethendry, and Margaret, third daughter of Robert Grant of Wester Lethendry— they were married in 1749. These two Lethendrys are about a mile apart just above the village of Cromdale in Strathspey…I am the last of his descendants, and indeed of the whole Lethendy family. His younger brother Cuthbert was also in Canada. He had no brother Charles..it seems probable that he[Charles Grant] and my grandfather were friends out there and……connected through the Glenbeg connection….Glenbeg is near Grantown, a most lovely little glen, but there is nothing there now but a modern farmhouse— though a group of very old hardwood trees indicate where the old home must have been– as in those parts trees only grew around houses. I do not know if there are any descendents of the Glenbeg family left." Donald married Henrietta CUTHBERT on 29 April 1707 in Cromdale and Inverallan parish, Moray, Scotland.1 (Henrietta CUTHBERT was born about 1685.) |
