CUMING, Alexander 3rd of Craigmill, Jacobite 1745, taken at Culloden 1 2Other names for Alexander were CUMMING, Alexander younger of Craigmiln 3 and CUMMING, Alexander.4 User ID: Z163. General Notes: "One of this family, who was a Commissioner to the Duke of Perth, was at the Battle of Culloden, where he was taken prisoner and carried to London. Having been released from prison, through some influence unknown to himself, he returned home, and about 1752 sold the property of Craigmill to Mr. Grant of Elchies." Alexander married Elizabeth TULLOCH, daughter of Thomas TULLOCH of Tannachy, younger and Mary DUFF.1 2 (Elizabeth TULLOCH was born about 1713 and died on 27 November 1778 in Balvenie, Banffshire, Scotland 5.) Marriage Notes: "Alexander Cuming, 3rd of Craigmill, married Elizabeth Tulloch. This was the 'Alexander Cuming yr of Craigmill' who died in 1746 in London, CC8/8/128]. The couple had at least seven children: William (later known as de Cuming), whose son Thomas de Cuming went to Demerara in 1800; Thomas Cuming of Demerara; and five daughters." |
