"JOHN CUMMING, born about 1641, third son of John C. of Relugas, brother of William C., one of the regents of the Univ. of Edinburgh; educated at King's College, Aberdeen; M.A, (1661); became schoolmaster of Turriff; ord. to Edinkillie 2nd Jan. 1668; trans, to Auldearn 14th Feb. 1672; dem. in 1682; adm. 24th May 1683; was Dean of Moray; died at Edinkillie (where his brother was min.), 9th Feb. 1689, 'a man of great piety and benevolence.' He marr. Barbara Innes, who predeceased him, and had issue- John, Professor of Divinity, Edinburgh Univ.; Alexander, surgeon, R.N.; Jean (marr. William Crombie, merchant, Elgin); Katherine (marr. James White, merchant, Peebles); Margaret. (Elgin Sas., 1678; Shaw's Moray, ii., 191; Ing. Ret. Gen., 6725, 7409.]"
