"Gilbert married a daughter of M'Donald of Clanronald, Lord of the Isles,* and having, as some say, no son, was succeeded by his nephew David, who became ancestor of the Cumyns of Achterlew and Lochaber."

* From Gilbert's line descended the Lords of Glencharney, ending in Bigla Cumyn, who earned the land to the Grants in 1442, when her son Sir Duncan Grant succeeded.
