"The subject of this memoir married, 1st, in 1809, Grace, second daughter of Ludovick Grant, of Knockandow, in Murrayshire, Esq., by Lady Grizel Gordon, third daughter of Charles, second Earl of Aboyne; 2dly, Grace, eldest daughter of the Rev. Patrick Grant, and as well as his former lady, a second cousin to the present Earl of Aboyne.

from Royal Naval Biography Supplement

Note: The information that Joseph Spear's second wife Grace was the daughter of Patrick Grant is contradicted by the recordof the marriage which recorded her as the relict of Lieutenant John Thomson R.N.; the father of the Grace Grant who married John Thomson was named as John Grant. Patrick Grant, the minister's daughter Grace in fact married Anthony Barclay.
