Baptisms

"June 1741
John Gordon in Drumfergue had a child baptized called Robert begotten wt his lawl spouse Jean (see Note below) Gordon witts Robert Robt. Gordon in Brae of Scuidargue"

Note:

According to other sources the wife of John Gordon in Drumfergue was named Elizabeth Gordon, as she is named in other all the other baptismal narratives for this family. So 'Jean' is probably a clerical error.

Captain Wimberley, on page 168 of
The Gordons in Haddoch discusses the question of John Gordon having more than one wife, where he says:

"
Robert Gordon in Brae of Scnrdargue witnessed the birth of a John son of 'John Gordon in Drumfergue and Elizabeth Pirie,' November 3, 1751."

However, the GRO OPR Index, for that date in Gartly parish, shows:

"GORDON
JOHN
JOHN GORDON/ELIZABETH GORDON FR93 (FR93)
M
03/11/1751
198 10 / 320
Gartly"

the narrative of which records the surname of the spouse of John Gordon as "Gorden."

Between 1740 and 1746 there are four children baptised in Gartly parish whose parents are Robert Gordon and Elizabeth Pirie. 2 3 4

Robert married Mary.1 (Mary was born about 1750.)

(Referring to Lieutenant-Colonel John Gordon)
