Isabel married George GORDON in Balnacraig (Glass), son of Peter GORDON in Haddoch (Cabrach) and Bessie GORDON.1 (George GORDON in Balnacraig (Glass) was born about 1706.)

  Marriage Notes:

There are differing accounts about George Gordon and his family:

"254. George Gordon in Balnacraig, Glass (2nd S., IV., 125). - From a pedigree of the Birkenburn Gordons in my possession, it would appear that George Gordon in Balnacraig, Glass, was (see Note below) a nephew of William, VI. of Birkenburn, and grandson of Alexander V. His father was Peter in Haddoch, Cabrach, and who married Bessie Gordon, who died in 1728. George Gordon in Balnacraig, it is believed, married a Mclnnes of Midthird, Botriphnie, and had: one son - Theodore, a graduate in medicine of Aberdeen (18th October, 1796), who afterwards became Military Inspector of Hospitals in Jamaica, and died there unmarried-and three daughters, of whom one was married to Harry Forbes, another to Gauld in Bowmakelloch, and the third, Isobel, to James Wilson in Bankhead, Clatt. I never heard of a fourth daughter. Theodore left considerable property, which was inherited by the representatives of the sisters. George Gordon had a brother who was out in the '45, who suffered rather severely in consequence. Harry J. Wilson."

An alternative account followed this pargraph:

"George Gordon in Balnacraig. Glass, married ______ Mclnnes, Botriphnie, and had one son and four daughters. The son, James, was a doctor in Jamaica, where he made some money. He returned to Scotland, and died there, leaving his money between the two sisters whose marriages had pleased him. These sisters were Isobel who married James Wilson in Bankhead, Clatt, and ______ who married ________ Gauld in Bowmakelloch, Botriphnie. The other two sisters are said to have married Harry Forbes in Nether Wheedlemont and Peterkin... James Wilson and Isobel Gordon were my husband's great-grandparents. They had twelve children.

Denham House, A. K. W Goldhawk Road, W."

from Scottish Notes and Queries

Note:

Peter Gordon, George Gordon's father, is claimed by some descendants as the youngest son of Alexander Gordon, V. of Birkenburn (died 1709), but as far as is known the evidence for this is not fully documented. 1
