GORDON, George 4th of Sheelagreen 1
General Notes:
"George Gordon sold Sheelagreen in 1744 to William Gordon, son of John Gordon of Drumwhindle and grandson of William Gordon, I. of Farskane, a cadet of the Gordons of Cairnburrow and Park, who was succeeded in 1776 by his son Colonel Charles Gordon, wrongly described in Deeside Tales (pp. 184, 185) as belonging to the Abergeldie family."
from House of Gordon
Note:The different titles by which individuals were known, couple with the selling of lands between families can lead to much confusion. The man referred to above as "John Gordon of Drumwhindle" was also John Gordon 2nd of Artloch, whose son William, after a purchase of land between families, became William Gordon 1st of Sheelagreen, ie of a new family line. 1
