Christian Home and her grandson, Peter Gordon, were recorded in 1871 by the census of that year, living together at Mains of Tullyangus in the parish of Clatt, Aberdeenshire. Christian, the head of the household, was recorded as unmarried, aged 52 years, and born in Clatt. She was a 'Pauper (Knitter)' by occupation. Their house had two rooms with one or more windows. Peter Gordon was recorded as 3 years old and born in Keig parish, Aberdeenshire.

Peter was recorded by the 1881 census living with Christina Home aged 62 years and Peter Home Ross in Clatt, Aberdeenshire. The dwelling was Overtown of Tullyangus, in the parish of Clatt. Christina was his (paternal) grandmother. Peter's age was noted as 13 years and his birthplace as Keig, Aberdeenshire.

Peter Gordon, cousin of Peter Home Ross, of Gilmerton, gave notice of Peter's death before the registrar, William Cochrane, at Gilmerton on 7 February 1889.

In 1891 Peter was recorded by the census living with his grandmother Christina Gordon. They were living in High Street, Liberton, Edinburgh in a dwelling with one windowed room. Peter was recorded as Christina's 'son'. He was aged 23 years and had been born in Clatt, Aberdeenshire. His occupation was that of coal miner.

In the 1899 birth certificate of his son, Daniel, Peter Gordon was recorded as a maltman. Peter was the informant of the birth before the registrar on 7 December 1899.

The census of 1911 for Liberton in Midlothian recorded Peter and Mary A, Gordon, aged 42 and 41 years respectively, and their children Peter, aged 13 years, James, aged 12 years, Daniel, aged 11 years, Georginia, aged 9 years, Normina, aged 5 years, and George S. Gordon, aged 3 years, living in Greenend. Peter worked as a hewer in a coal mine. He and his wife had been born in Aberdeenshire, he in Keig and Mary in Peterhead, where young Peter was also born. James and Daniel were born in Edinburgh. The three younger children had been born in Liberton.

In his son Daniel's marriage certificate of 1920, Peter Gordon's occupation was recorded as "Miller".

When Peter Gordon died in 1936, his death certificate recorded him as a retired Millers shopkeeper aged 69 years. He was married to Mary Agnes Hacket. His father was deceased.

Peter Gordon, son of the deceased, was present where the death took place. The informant's address was recorded as 3 Spiers Place, Leith. He gave notice of his father's death before the registrar, W. S. Cockburn, at Edinburgh on 24 September 1936. 7


Peter married Mary Agnes HACKET on 30 December 1896 in No 4 Love Lane, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.1 (Mary Agnes HACKET was born on 22 September 1869 in Peterhead parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland 3 6 11 and died in 1957 in Leith, Midlothian, Scotland 7 12.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place after banns under the forms of the United Presbyterian Church, at Love Lane Peterhead, the residence of the couple. The minister was John Wyllie and the witnesses were David Wighton and Janet Stewart.

Peter Gordon, a bachelor aged 28 years, and of 4 Love Lane Peterhead, worked as a general labourer. His mother was recorded as deceased.

Mary Agnes Hacket was a single woman aged 26 years and worked as a domestic servant. She was of the same address as George Gordon. Her father was deceased. Her father, James Hacket, a baker, was deceased, and her mother, Ann Milne, living.

The marriage was registered on 31 December 1896 at Peterhead, George Morrice being the registrar. 1
