In the Testament Dative of Robert Lauder of 1710, he was recorded as having died abroad. His brother Charles, 'wryter in Edinburgh' was recorded as his 'brother german' and nearest kin to the deceased man.

The Testament Dative of James Lauder, in 1737, named Charles Lauder his son, writer in Edinburgh, as his nearest kin. ² ³ ⁴
