"...Pitcairn's Criminal Trials records that on 15th December, 1580, Walter Lauder, 'serwand to vmqle the Lairde of Bass,' was tried for the 'crewall murthour of vmquhile Mr. James Lauder of the Bass, his maister; committit in the moneth of October.' This servant was found guilty of being act and part in the murder and was executed.'
