The 1841 census for Edinburgh, St Cuthbert's, recorded Robert Wilson living at 19 Salisbury Street with (presumably) his wife Isabella, a child called Isabella Prentice, aged 8 years, four male medical students and a male draper's apprentice, all in the 15-19 year age group. Robert Wilson was recorded as a bookseller, aged in the 40-44 year age group, and had been born in Midlothian, Scotland.

Robert and Isabella Winton were recorded by the 1851 census for Edinburgh, St Cuthbert's parish. They shared their home with four young people: Alexander and Helen Winton, Isabella Prentice and John S. Bates. The first three were relatives of Robert and Isabella, the latter was a medical student lodging at their home. Robert was recorded as 58 years of age and worked as a hatter. His birthplace was recorded as Leith.

Robert Wilson, brother in law of Catherine Jack or McWilliam and occupier of the house in which she died, and who had been present where her death occurred, gave notice of her death before the registrar, Andrew Balfour, at Edinburgh on 24 December 1860.

The 1861 census for Edinburgh St Cuthbert's parish in the Canongate registration district recorded Robert Wilson as head of the household living at 19 Salisbury Street. He was recorded as a retired hatter and aged 68 years. His birthplace was noted as Leith. In this household lived with him his wife Isabella, a niece, Margaret Allan, a servant, Isabella McAnn, and two male lodgers, one an arts student and the other a post office clerk.

The death certificate of his wife, Isabella Wilson, in 1862 recorded that she was married to Robert Wilson, hatter.

In the 1871 census for Edinburgh St Cuthbert's parish, Robert Wilson was recorded living in the household of Isabella Brown, the granddaughter of George Jack, brother of Robert Wilson's late wife, Isabella. 3 4 5 6 7 8


Robert married Isabella JACK, daughter of John JACK and Helen GRIEVE, on 1 November 1820 in Saint Cuthbert's Parish, Edinburgh, Scotland.1 (Isabella JACK was born about 1794 in Edinburgh, Scotland 4 7 and died 17 December 1862 at 8.30 am in 19 Salisbury Street, Canongate District, Edinburgh, Scotland 6.). The cause of her death was pneumonia over one month.
