General Notes: "George Gordon was a Roman Catholic, and the Privy Council was engaged in trying to bring him to justice for several Popish practices, of which he was alleged to have been guilty. George married Isobel WOOD, daughter of Sir Patrick WOOD of Bonnytoun and Jean STEWART.1 2 (Isobel WOOD was born about 1575.) Marriage Notes: "His (William Gordon's) eldest son George Gordon Sixth Laird of Gight, married the Laird of Bonnytown's Daughter Wood, with whom he begat two sons and three Daughters," George next married Jean ABERNETHY, daughter of George ABERNETHY 7th Lord Saltoun of Abernethy and Margaret STEWART, by 18 May 1617.2 3 (Jean ABERNETHY was born about 1582.) Marriage Notes: "Gight was twice married .... (2), before May 18, 1617, to Jean, daughter of George Abernethy, seventh Baron Saltoun, and widow of Sir John Lindsay of Kinfauns. |
