The death certificate of his daughter Jean or Jane Deans recorded this man as 'George Deans'. Given the unusual mother's name of the daughter, 'Alison Ramsay', it would seem to have been an error on the part of the informant. Jane Deans' husband was George and his father was George.'George Deans' was recorded in that same death certificate of 1897 as a porter. ¹

John married Alison RAMSAY, daughter of Christopher RAMSAY and Helen ERSKINE, on 14 March 1824 in Prestonpans, East Lothian, Scotland.¹ (Alison RAMSAY was baptised on 7 August 1798 in Tranent, East Lothian, Scotland ².)
