UDNY, Alexander of Udny, advocate 1 2User ID: H240. General Notes: "This Alexander Udny effected great improvements on the estate of Udny. The avenues, commonly called the 'walks of Udny,' were laid out by him, which still remain, though the inner rows of trees have long ago been cut down. He had a plan for irrigating the meadows, the remains of the works for which may still be seen in the milldam of the mill of Udny. Alexander Udny, commonly called 'Commissioner Udny,' d. s. p. in 1789, and was succeeded by his nephew, William Fraser Udny of Udny and Inverallochy." Alexander married Margaret DUFF, daughter of William DUFF of Braco and Helen TAYLOR, on 25 December 1768.1 (Margaret DUFF was born about 1710 and died in 1793 1.) Marriage Notes: "Patrick Duff of Culter died in 1763, and his wife afterwards (1768) married Alexander Udny of Udny, he and she being subsequently known as Mr. and Mrs. Udny-Duff ; he died 1789, and she in 1793, without issue." |
