GORDON, Helen 1 3User ID: J321. Helen married John MACDONALD of Glengarry in 1728.1 2 3 (John MACDONALD of Glengarry was born about 1680 and died on 1 September 1754 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland 3.) Marriage Notes: "His (John Gordon, Old Glenbucket's) eldest daughter, Helen, married, about 1727, John Macdonell of Glengarry, and thus became the step-mother of the Alastair whom Mr. Lang has described as 'Pickle the Spy' - greatly to the indignation of some of Glenbucket's living descendants. She was a very capable woman, and proud of her descent, for, as her husband wrote to the Earl of Sutherland in April 1745, she was 'delighted with your clanship to the family of Gordon.' James Roy Macgregor describes her as 'a lady of great spirit.' " |
