GORDONNE, Jonet 1

  • Born: About 1605
  • Marriage (1): GORDONNE, Johne, Captaine

Jonet married Captaine Johne GORDONNE, son of James GORDON 3rd of Knockespock and Margaret GORDON. (Captaine Johne GORDONNE was born about 1591.)

  Marriage Notes:

'They lay in wait for Richard (Gordon), "soght him divers tymes, and [at] last, rancountering him betuix Tillyfour and Newton of Colsalmond, he wes violentlie assaultit and persewit of his lyffe by the said Patrik, accompanyed with Johnne Gordoun of Ardlogie, his brother [the father of the notorious Nathaniel, executed in 1646], Johnne Gordon of Knockespock [who had married the latter's sister], and a nombir of thair complices, who, nochtwithstanding of the said Richart his humble salutatioun unto thame, and of his submissive intreatie for Godis peace and his majesties, did hurt and wounde bothe him and his hors".'

from House of Gordon

Note: There can be confusion about who John Gordon of Knockespock because a sale of the land took place and the designation shifted from one Gordon branch family to another. The dating of this episode around the 1620s, and the personae involved in it, make it clear it was the original Knockespock John Gordon in question. The square brackets are the author's.
