"JOHN GUTHRIE of Guthrie, son of John G., Bishop of Moray; educated at Univ. of St Andrews ; M.A. (16th
July 1620) ; adm. to Keith in 1625 ; pres. by Charles I. 20th Sept. 1630 ; adm. after 19th Jan. 1631 ; elected a member of the Glasgow Assembly of 1638, but does not appear to have given in his commission or to have attended ; dep. by a Sub-Synod 21st Jan. 1641 for declining the Covenant. From Principal Baillie's Letters, dated 18th March and 21st Dec. of the same year, G. is stated to have yielded and subscribed, he preached a 'penitential sermon' ; at Duffus on 10th Feb. 1642 [2 Thess. ii. 16, 17], and was restored to his preaching
office, but not to his parish, the laird of Duffus strenuously opposing a presentation from Charles I., 24th Nov. 1642, and an earnest supplication in his favour by the Synod. He died at Guthrie Castle, 8th June 1643. He marr. 26th Dec. 1626, Anna (survived him), daugh. of Robert Innes of that ilk, and had issue Nicolas. [Baillie's Letters ; Parl. Papers, 2nd July 1661.]"

John married Anne INNES, daughter of Robert INNES 19th of that Ilk and Elizabeth ELPHINSTONE, on 26 December 1626.1 2 (Anne INNES was born about 1595 and died after 8 June 1643 2.)

"Robert Laird of Innes, as said is, marryed Dame Anne Elphinstoun, daughter to Alexander Lord Elphinstoun Lord High Theasurer, by whom he had Sir Robert Innes who succeeded him and Sir John Innes of Cromy, his second son and father to Sir Robert of Muirtoun, and three daughters, married to the Laird of Guthre, George Monro of Miltoun, and Bishop Douglass."
