"John Forbes of Echt, the only son of Robert Forbes of Echt, and brother of Barbara, died without issue, in 1609, when the unentailed portion of the estate fell to Alexander Skene, consisting of Culquhorsie and Dumbreck, and the entailed portion to Robert Forbes of Finnersie, the heir male."

John married Helen STRACHAN, daughter of Sir John STRACHAN of Thornton and Margaret LIVINGSTON, about 1569(1570)(charter confirmation).^{1 2} (Helen STRACHAN was born about 1553.)

  Marriage Notes:

" .... and on the 30th December 1569, confirmation was granted to a charter by John Forbes, lord of the fee of the lordship of Aicht (Echt), with consent of Robert Forbes, his grandfather, and others, his curators, in favour of Helen, daughter of John Strachan of Thornton, in liferent, of the lands of Cowlie in the barony of Aicht (Privy Seal Register, vol. xxxviii., fol. 112)."

Robert, married Helen Strauchin, daughter to the Laird of Thorntoune, who did bear to him John Forbes; and both the Johns, father and son, dyed without succession : the estate fell by lyne to Mr. Arthur Forbes, who was married to Bessie Lyon, relict of John Master of Forbes, who dyed without succession."
